I upgraded my CPU from R9 3900X to R9 5900X and noticed some overheating issues. My Corsair H150i handled the 3900X well during games, but it struggles with the 5900X, keeping temps around 42°C while gaming. It idles at about 42ºC, but anything higher—like 80°C or more during intense tasks—makes it uncomfortable. In idle mode it runs at around 4GHz and drops to base speed at 3.7GHz. I’m wondering if something is wrong with my CPU? A 360mm AIO should manage the 5900X without problems, right? The specs are: R9 5900X, Asus 570X E-Gaming, 32GB G.Skill Trident Z 3600, RTX 3080 Ti, Corsair H150i Pro XT, and Corsair HX 850.

It suggests the cooler might be using a thermal paste bridge, not allowing proper heat transfer from the CPU to the cooler. This means the paste stays cool rather than effectively cooling the processor.

It gradually increases without sudden drops or abrupt shifts, but it will remove the cooler, sanitize it, and refeed it—definitely worth a try.
