I just purchased a new PC and thought it would be perfect for testing the latest OS. I mainly use it on weekends and have faced driver problems with some games, so I’m considering switching back to Windows 8.1. I’ve tried installing during startup but keep getting “Windows 8.1 failed to install.” It doesn’t boot from USB or DVD.

It doesn't recognize the USB drive. Would you like to try entering the BIOS settings? Edited November 2, 2014 by Speedbird

Absolutely, I'm happy to help. You've successfully accessed the BIOS and adjusted the boot sequence multiple times.

You just got a new setup, right? I’d be happy to help with a fresh Windows 10 installation if you’d like.

You previously had version 8.1 and now want to revert to it, but the installation process blocks that.

Sure, I thought I’d try it out in VirtualBox, but I ended up deciding to go ahead and just experiment anyway.

How did you get 8.1? Do you have the 8.1 disc? You can install it from the disc rather than using USB.

I mentioned testing a disc, but it didn't attempt to boot from it.

Enable boot order override and start from the disc.
