I am using Windows 10 on my machine and attempting to switch to Windows 11. I recently assembled a new setup, but I continued to use the M.2 drive from my previous build. This caused booting problems that were resolved temporarily but might still apply to my current situation. Today, when trying to upgrade from 10 to 11, I encountered the message "Windows can't be installed because this PC has an unsupported disk layout for UEFI." To address this, I changed the format of my C drive from MBR to GPT as suggested online. After retrying the update, it failed at the end. Restarting my computer triggered a blue screen asking me to select between Windows 10 or 11. Selecting Windows 10 brought back my usual desktop, but choosing Windows 11 displayed a black screen or an endless gigabyte logo. Upon launching the setup, it reported failure due to a downlevel phase error during the PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT process. I attempted the installer once more, which now showed that an update was already running. If a clean installation is advised, I understand it’s acceptable since I have another SSD for storing files, though I prefer not to replace my current data. I included a photo showing the situation—Windows 10 on top and Windows 11 at the bottom. I’m hoping this resolves the drive-related issues and completes the upgrade smoothly. Thanks!

I faced a comparable problem when switching from Windows 7 to 10. (I understand you used the screenshot as an illustration). At this stage, it’s wise to ensure all crucial data is saved and perform a fresh installation. I recall resolving this issue by running sfc /scannow, though the problem persisted.
