Hello everyone, I’m looking for some guidance on a problem I’ve encountered with my new PC. The specs are listed in my signature, but I’ve noticed a few concerns. When I assembled the system in February, everything seemed fine, except for the SATA ports—they didn’t recognize any drives. After trying various setups, I finally used a PCIE SATA card, which resolved the issue. Once Windows was installed and everything checked out, I felt confident. Later, I contacted the parts supplier to explore options like returning the board or CPU for testing, but since the card worked, I didn’t want to risk it.

Over time, a BIOS update or two caused some unexpected behavior. For instance, when launching certain apps like Photoshop or Microsoft Flight Simulator, the PC would pause intermittently. This wasn’t consistent—sometimes nothing appeared in Event Manager at all, and it would recover on its own.

Recently, I ran CineBench R23 and found my score lower than expected. A friend with a similar build (using a B850-E board instead of B650-E) scored around 2000 points higher. My R7 9800X3D scored 20789 (PBO), while his scored 22919. Could the differences in board or CPU be affecting performance? I’ve seen others claim over 22000 points on the same model.

Could this hardware variation be impacting results? Are there other tests I should try to confirm? Thanks in advance for your help.

Conditions are ideal, resting around 40°C (30°C with fans on high) and the cinema bench operates at 80°C, reaching a peak of 84°C during operation.

Are your chipset drivers current? Lower-end motherboards such as the B650-E class Bourds often have more affordable VRMs (voltage regulator modules) that manage CPU power, which can restrict performance.

Bios and chipset all hardware drivers were refreshed about a week prior to testing. It might be related to the VRM; during testing HWinfo showed the CPU at 5.2ghz, and I’m considering reducing power draw to 145W (just verify the power later).
