Choose quietly! BK024 Dark Rock Slim for the 5600x. If you truly plan to move to a 5800x3d or higher in the future, the NH-D15 is the way to go right now. The real challenge is deciding if you’ll commit to upgrading. If yes, go with NH-D15. If not, Dark Rock Slim is enough. Simple decision.

It seems the same applies to the 5600 as well.

Yes, if you evaluate everything and avoid committing to an upgrade, the 5600x should suffice for at least two more years. It's wise to maximize performance rather than focus on future-proofing. Most modern games are designed for high GPU usage while the CPU handles data transfer. Few games rely heavily on multiple cores or threads. Personally, I've been using a 5800x for about 18 months and intend not to upgrade until late 2024-25, hoping for some issues later.

Hope everything functions smoothly in the meantime, and I might choose Bequiet! If upgrades come later, the GPU is likely to be the focus.

I reviewed their website and saw that only the Dark Rock Pro 4 and Dark Rock TF 2 are listed as compatible. It seems the slim model is removed from the board. Updated on December 12, 2022 by NB912

I understand the specs are high, but I’m not concerned about the 250W and 2500RPM settings. The Noctua model runs best around 1500RPM, so it’s fine with the lower numbers you noticed.

Consider going for a Dark Rock Pro 4. If you need better cooling with less fan noise, the NH-D15 would be a good choice. Alternatively, if the NH-D15 doesn’t fit your setup, the NHU-12A from Noctua could work as a more compact option. Upgrading to a cooler for an extra 10 dollars often brings a Noctua model that offers superior cooling and quieter operation. Keep in mind that the 250W TDP is the maximum the cooler can handle, but real-world performance varies—gamer reviews tend to be more reliable than lab results. Manufacturers usually highlight their best test outcomes in marketing.

That's my initial impression, I'm considering the NHU-12A. The case specs are 4000D airflow, but I'll verify compatibility with the MOBO. Are there significant differences between the 12A and 12S models aside from the cost? Updated December 12, 2022 by NB912

It could be a suitable option. It maintains adequate airflow and operates quietly.

The NHU-12S is also great at handling a 5600x setup—it runs quietly and keeps your CPU cooler.
