Dear Reader, I reached this forum out of desperation. Based on the details: Asus ROG b650e-i motherboard paired with Vengeance DDR5 2x16GB 6000mhz AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Corsair SF850, Samsung 980 PRO 500GB, and MSI 4070 Super Problem setup. After one week of building, I’m facing booting difficulties without understanding the cause. When powering on, the yellow DRAM indicator lights up but no system boots. Previously, turning off the PSU until a metallic click sounded, then restarting, would briefly show a yellow light for about ten seconds before transitioning to white and allowing booting. Now this temporary solution isn’t working (persistent yellow glow). I’ve replaced the DRAM and motherboard with identical parts but without success. Resetting CMOS didn’t help either. Trying to boot without any drives or GPU also prevents access to BIOS. This situation is really frustrating since I rely on my computer daily for study and research data analysis. If anyone has suggestions or workarounds, I’d greatly appreciate your advice. Best regards,
M

Replace the RAM, attempt to boot with just one stick. Also reattach the 24pin M.2 slot, and ensure all cables in the power supply are secure—no M.2 should produce any "clang," it might just click. The PSU may only make a "click" sound, not a full noise.

Thank you for your message. I've already tried these steps without success. The clanging sound is unusual, coming from various PSUs and the same motherboard.

The DRAM light could signal a problem with the memory controller built into the CPU. Have you attempted to reinsert the CPU and inspect the pins for damage or misalignment? You might also test a different CPU on your motherboard. This should provide some guidance.

Thanks for the response! Your evaluation was quite insightful. I've just placed an order for a new CPU to validate your concept. I'll get back to you as soon as I receive it!

OK Is a short on the mobo (some juice through the case) a thing you've looked at ?

Through additional testing I confirmed the noise originates from the PSU rather than the motherboard. This conclusion came after observing that turning off the motherboard would stop the sound. You can review the audio file provided for reference. audio.m4a

It seems like a typical PSU click is what you're experiencing. For your problem, you should test with a different CPU; it might be faulty.

The CPU replacement was successful! Thanks for the guidance. It seems the memory controller might have been the issue. The new one still takes a bit longer (~10 seconds) before the yellow light fades and the PC boots. Not clear what that means, but at least I can restart now!
