I recently got my 5900X, installed it, and everything seems to be functioning well except when I run Cinebench R20 in single-core mode. The clock speed stays below 4.2 GHz, and it frequently shows multiple threads being used up to 80% instead of just one thread. Although I've used Ryzen since generation 2, I haven't examined this issue closely before. My motherboard is the Asus Gaming X570 Plus with 2x16 T-Force Dark Pro 3600 CL16 chips using AI3. I can overclock all cores, but only tried a small boost and it's working as expected—both single-core and all-core improvements. It seems I'm not pushing for single-core overclocking beyond the all-core boost. Any advice on what to check or adjust would be greatly appreciated.

Check other Cinebench r20 single-core results and see how they match yours. If they’re alike, there’s no need to be concerned. It performs similarly to your 3700x.

I understand but the value was before any core boost. It grows with every core boost (score 586 at 4.325), which makes me think it wasn't just single-core optimization as planned.

586 is quite close to the ideal setting for the CPU. Attempt to turn on the PBO and check if it improves performance.

It ran without any manual overclock, PBO was off, and both the Task Manager and Asus monitoring displayed core clocks around 4200-578/586 with manual overclock settings (4325/1.175v). The Task Manager showed 4.28 while Asus reported 4.31. The first clue was that the core clock shifted after a manual overclock, but not in the opposite direction as expected.

A full reset to the factory settings would likely restore normal operation. Since this isn't the first time the CPU has been used, it might retain some leftover tweaks from a previous run.
