I recently watched the video about sleep and hibernation and thought, maybe I should try it. My PC stays on all the time but I often leave it unattended, so using sleep sounds like a good way to save power. Then I recall Windows 7’s auto-sleep didn’t help me, and now I’m years later on an 8.1 system with the same problem. Sleep or hibernate just doesn’t activate automatically. It functions properly when I choose manually, but the auto option keeps failing. The system will restart normally after sleep. I’ve tweaked settings, looked into BIOS, turned off network power options, but it still won’t sleep on its own. I suspect the issue might be linked to a BIOS power setting, though I’m not sure what else could cause this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are my system details:

PC Specs:
- CPU: Rampage V Extreme x99
- RAM: 5820K @ 4.5GHZ
- GPU: eVga GTX 980 SC @ 1600/7800
- SSD: Samsung 1TB
- HDD: WD Black Enterprise 4x4TB
- PSU: Corsair HX1000
- Sound: Sound Blaster Z, Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D
- Monitor: LG 27"
- Keyboard: Corsair K70
- Mouse: Logitech G502
- Headset: XBOX 360 Wireless Controller

Are you certain it isn’t asleep during a long wait? You can adjust the sleep duration manually by changing that setting. Using a fan directly connected to the PSU might prevent the hybrid’s sleep function from working properly, which could be the issue. Look into background processes. Some applications block automatic sleep. I recall VLC had this issue before; it’s unclear if it persists now. The SSD may boot or restart extremely quickly, making you unaware of the delay.

It doesn't turn on automatically when sleeping. All systems power down unless I manually restart, then I need to enter a password. Setting the sleep timer to ten minutes has no effect. Also, connecting a fan directly to the PSU won't allow the hybrid sleep function to work properly, which could be the issue.
