Problem with Windows installation process.
Hey there! I recently upgraded my old Mobo/CPU/Ram to an MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi with 7800x3D and 32gb DDR5-6000, plus an extra NVMe drive. Everything worked smoothly at first, but after moving the existing NVMEs, I faced driver conflicts that triggered “driver_power_failure” BSODs after a few minutes. To fix this, I decided to format all drives and reinstall Windows from scratch, which ended up creating a really messy situation. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get past the “Getting Files Ready for Install” screen in Windows Media Creation USB without it resetting everything. Any advice would be appreciated! Unfortunately, I can’t access any dump files since only the BIOS is reachable.
Windows problems after an upgrade are common, so reinstalling makes sense. First update the BIOS, re-seat the drive, and install only the OS drive temporarily. Try moving to another drive to test. It’s possible the USB is faulty—try installing on a different Windows PC. Download the Windows ISO and use Rufus to create an USB image.
I’m also considering it might be the USB (an older USB 2.0 device that’s been lying around) so I placed an order for a few new drives to collect after work today. I wasn’t familiar with Rufus but after researching it, it could potentially assist as well since it might resolve some Windows Media Creation Tool problems I’ve encountered. I’ll definitely try them out along with a BIOS update tonight and share the outcomes here! Thank you for your input!
The solution turned out to be a faulty motherboard. I think the BIOS was almost damaged during the initial boot and then driver issues caused it to fail. I went to Best Buy, replaced it, and after rebuilding everything, it now works perfectly without any problems.
