Problem with Windows Anomalies
Problem with Windows Anomalies
Hi, I faced issues with applications such as Discord and Afterburner experiencing constant crashes and restarts. Updating video drivers required entering safe mode, so I opted for a fresh Windows 11 installation. I used the installer from another PC, removed the existing partitions and rebuilt them for the new setup. Once Windows 11 was installed, it still caused problems with all software. Firefox reported corrupted files, Armor Crate triggered errors during installation, and the SFC scan failed due to resource protection issues. I attempted a clean installation but found no further solutions. I’ve attached the SMART data of the disk I’m using and completed two memory tests lasting 4 hours and 40 minutes without any errors. The motherboard is an Asus Rog Strix B660 with a gaming Wi-Fi card. If I attempt to log into the newly created Windows, I encounter blue screens indicating a Driver Overrun stack buffer, Clock_Watchdog_Timeout, and SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. I also tried replacing the SSD, but the errors persisted across both Windows 10 and 11 versions. Thank you for your time.
Attempting to access BIOS and reset its settings can sometimes resolve issues. If a battery is sufficiently old in the BIOS backup, it may cause inconsistent performance rather than complete failure. Consider whether resetting the BIOS could be beneficial. Also check for any corrosion present. If addressing these factors helps, proceed by restoring settings gradually—such as reapplying an XMP profile on RAM one at a time, testing each individually, even if previous tests like memtest86 passed.
I also attempted this, removed a bank of RAM and tried but without changes, I also reset the bios to default but nothing, just changed the xmp1 profile.
I'll add one thing: while testing I noticed that it downloads all the Windows updates except the Windows Defender security ones—it just can't do those. It makes me think of a virus, but is it possible after a clean installation? If so, do you have any other suggestions?
I just ran another test in safe mode and everything installed properly without issues, including sfcscannow. However, I’m still unsure what the problem might be since Windows was just installed fresh.
There are many things happening with Windows that could lead to issues, like updates failing or problems with downloads. Sometimes even the internet connection can cause temporary failures. These things might change or disappear over time, making it difficult to predict.
Good news, though—I'm glad it worked out for you!
This approach might not be the most typical way to troubleshoot, but you could use a running Linux distribution like Kubuntu, which doesn’t require installation and operates entirely in RAM unless you choose to install it. They can be accessed via DVD, USB drive, or external storage, so they won’t affect your main system’s hard drive. Live distributions are mainly for demonstration and take a long time to start, but if you manage to get any results—successful or problematic—it could help identify hardware issues.
Try the Kubuntu 22.04:
https://kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/
(22.04 is the "long term support" version and tends to have fewer problems)
Other Live Linux options exist too. memtest86+ is a micro Live release, but it’s meant to focus testing on memory rather than the full system.
