Problem with using the PS4 controller on Windows 11?
Hello
I’m facing a bit of a problem. I just got a new gaming laptop this Christmas and have been trying to set it up. But my PS4 controller is still not working. I haven’t managed to use my Xbox 360 wired controller yet, so I’ll update later.
For the PS4 controller, I was able to use it recently (probably Sunday). The light didn’t turn blue, but the game did recognize it. This time, nothing happened. Steam doesn’t even show it, and Windows also doesn’t seem to detect it properly. If I connect it through USB, it flashes orange for a short moment before stopping. Even when I switch settings in Device Manager, it disappears when unplugged and comes back when plugged back in.
I’ve also tried Input Mapper and DS4Windows. The latter completely doesn’t recognize it, even after installing all the necessary utilities. I’ve tested the 360 controller drivers too. Input Mapper can still detect it, and I’ve customized the lights to different colors, but neither Steam nor the game responds.
Lastly, I attempted Bluetooth connection. Windows connects to it, but Steam, DS4 or the game still don’t work. It won’t let me disconnect from the Bluetooth either. It just keeps failing.
😵
I’m really confused about what to do next. Even the Windows Update isn’t showing any new or optional updates for this issue.
Yeah, I've tried loads of things. I've even tried resetting the controller by pressing the small button at the back with a pin. I'm not sure about the firmware though. I've checked and checked Windows Update, but nothing has ever come up. So I'm not sure if a separate firmware update can be downloaded somewhere. My laptop has Bluetooth built in, but I've also used a Bluetooth dongle I have, and updated that, but nothing. It recognizes that it's connected according to Windows, but not Steam, the game, or Input Mapper/DS4Windows. My laptop only has two USB connectors - one of the left side and one on the right - and then two Thunderbolt 4 connectors. I've tried both standard USB slots, but I get the same issue. I only have the one USB connector for the controller as well, so I'm unable to test out another.
