I’m trying to set up one system for my kid this Christmas.
I’ve been using these parts for a while and have faced some issues for a long time.
At one point I had the i7 9700k with the Super Micro, but it had internet problems and I gave up.
Then I switched to an AsRock Z390 Phantom, which just power cycles without warning.
I tried a Celeron and a 4 GB RAM, and it works fine.
Next I got a Gigabyte Aureus Z390, which also powers on and off but is stable with the Celeron.
My kids are currently using an old Z170 i7 6700K system, and I planned to upgrade it for my other child’s gaming PC and build a better one for my eldest.
I’m unsure what I’m doing wrong and am also confused about the BIOS versions—both supported rollback and OU—but one recommended version can’t be rolled back.
I’ve tried several others without success…
My eldest will be fine with the Celeron and whatever board he chooses until next year, if that’s the plan.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

The revisions shouldn't cause any problems. Are both Asrock and Gigabyte boards excluded from testing? Just ensure the essentials are connected—ATX 24pin, CPU 8pin, one RAM stick in A2 slot, use igpu, no GPU or drives installed. Before adding RAM and turning on, reset CMOS using the provided method for your specific board, either by pressing a button or shorting pins, without removing the CMOS battery. Let the system restart if needed during post to complete memory training, which may take about a minute. What power supply are you using and its age?
