I purchased a Windows activation key from a fairly reliable source. I installed Windows 10 on my new computer and entered the key during setup. Since I wasn’t connected to the internet at that moment, no error appeared. Later, while adjusting my PC’s settings, I saw an error stating my key had been used on another machine. I need to buy a genuine key from a store. I installed Windows using a USB tool. Could there be an issue if the tool was designed for Windows 10 Pro and I activated Windows Home? Is there anything I did incorrectly or can I resolve this without spending money? Also, if you know any method to obtain a free activation key, let me know because I’m running out of funds.

When you set up Pro and attempted to use a Home key, the problem lies there. Updated on August 3, 2017 by wkdpaul Cleaned up

You might look for "Activation" in the search bar and if your Windows isn’t activated, it could offer a way to enter your code. If not, try the Microsoft phone activation process, which should fix the issue. When they call, clearly state that the code hasn’t been used elsewhere—just say "NO" without hesitation, as this will help them assist you more effectively.

It's not possible to enable Windows Pro using a home key. You must install the appropriate Windows edition.

No, the reason isn't about the activator name.

Your license is valid for Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. You should be able to use it on Windows Home as well.

For Windows 10 Pro, you must provide the required key. The Windows Home version doesn't support this.

It seems the issue isn't related because both your OS and key are W10 Pro. Consider checking for updates or contact support for further help.

Received a scam—return to the store where you purchased it and inform them the key is fake. Request another key or a refund. If needed, contact MS support to request the key be made usable again.

Inquire with the store where you bought it, mentioning it has been in use and requesting a replacement. Or reach out to Microsoft, reporting your issue.
