Hi, I installed a Crucial P3 PCIE 3.0 nvme 1tb M.2 drive into my main PC, but it won’t power on. Windows works fine on another drive, and the new drive powers up when removed. My system uses an i-9 9900k CPU and an Aorus Z390 Pro motherboard. I’ve tried both PCIe slots, but nothing works—especially the CPU light stayed on. Please help.

It might be a bad drive, but is it a new one?

Could you confirm if you've attempted to run it on a different machine?

It is a brand new drive, straight out of the box

I also don’t have a backup machine to try it on.

I’d receive a replacement if possible. The indicators suggest the drive is malfunctioning. If it was correctly off, it wouldn’t appear. But since it’s causing problems, it might be defective.

It might be a dead drive, but you can check for a faulty M.2 slot by removing your current OS drive and inserting the new one. If it boots into BIOS (meaning no OS loads), the motherboard is damaged and the drive is faulty. If not, the issue is with the drive itself.

Also, are there any SATA ports ready to use? It seems unlikely to cause an issue, but refer to page 20 of the manual regarding M2-SATA exclusions https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/M...b6f642193a

Your setup has three SATA drives, two SSDs, and one HDD. This configuration might be contributing to the boot issue if there are compatibility or driver problems.

Unlikely though, but feasible. Check the table on page 20 to confirm the correct ports and slots are being used. That model had some issues with M2-SATA connections.
