Problem with the new CPU not starting up.
I wrote this to understand why my older brother's PC won't start. He recently added an i9 9900K CPU, replacing his previous i7 8700K model. The machine doesn’t boot or keeps restarting even though all four RAM slots are installed. However, with just two RAM slots working, it does boot using both the new and old CPUs. I suspect he installed a BIOS update to support the i9 CPU. He’s trying to figure out why the other two RAM slots aren’t functioning now, as they did before the upgrade. Could the remaining two slots be damaged? He also claims he bent some pins on the motherboard during the new CPU installation and tried the cooler again, but can’t see any visible damage. Is this the reason for the boot issue with all four RAM slots?
After installing the new i9 9900k, it only boots when using two RAM slots. The last two slots remain empty despite having RAM installed. No RAM sticks are faulty—he’s tested all of them. Could the final two slots be malfunctioning? Since a new CPU was added, should I consider replacing the motherboard instead?
He checked all the RAM sticks in those two slots but it didn’t work. I’m not sure if the ports are damaged since I had the same problem after changing my BIOS. When I installed the original BIOS for that motherboard, my RAM slots functioned properly. I don’t know what’s happening in your situation.
The i9 processor doesn't fit with older BIOS versions; maybe the motherboard isn't compatible.
