My issue is that I trimmed the end of the heatpipe on my TT Frio Heatsink to fit my case. Once reassembled, I observed temperatures rising sharply to 75°C during heavy use. Was this caused by the way I modified the heatpipe? Thanks in advance!

they contain a substance that shifts between liquid and gas states when temperature changes, making your HSF feel heavy. This highlights the significant role of the fluid compared to just the copper.

Yes, you're correct. They can't be removed by cutting. I believed they contained a liquid, but apparently, they're not solid and can't be cut.
