Several months ago my Dell Inspiron 5577 began showing screen flickers. These only occurred during certain Windows updates, such as when connecting or disconnecting USB devices, using Bluetooth, reinstalling drivers, or adjusting resolutions. The flickering also appeared on external monitors. It didn’t happen during demanding activities like video editing or rendering in After Effects/Premier Pro, or while playing heavy games. This issue started while I was using Windows 1803, didn’t resolve after updating to 1809 or 1903. I ran stress tests and a memory check, both passed without problems. I suspected a driver problem, so I updated both integrated and dedicated graphics, even tried a BIOS update. Still no improvement. I disassembled the laptop, cleaned it thoroughly, reapplied thermal paste, and checked the display cable—still no fix. A friend with the same model didn’t have the problem, so I tried swapping in a temporary screen. It continued to flicker. Finally, I replaced the NVMe drive with a fresh Windows 10 installation, but the issue remains. It doesn’t significantly disrupt my usage, though it’s bothersome. I’m considering selling the laptop soon and think this problem could be a major deal-breaker for potential buyers. I’m running out of ideas on what to do next.
