the tradeoff being abysmal single thread performance. I have an upgrade path planned, the ASUS WS C621E SAGE but I'm just afk waiting for cpu prices to come down. it has taken a lot longer than I anticipated, some of the lower core count cpus still in the $1000 range which makes the cost/perf not worth even with novelty. I still just find it hard to believe something on the board failed the same way at roughly the same time across both sockets.
You're right to suspect a single point of failure. If the connection between the CPUs breaks down, it could definitely impact performance. As for the QPI interface, issues there would likely show up as specific symptoms related to data transfer or communication problems between the units.
Fair play with that single performance. Thanks for the feedback—I’m working on staying focused. I get it, sometimes I slip up, but I value your input. Curious about your purpose here—are you just browsing or using it regularly?
i think there might be an issue with the board. About a year and a half ago, the pc wasn't stable at the same OC, so i only ran stock clocks and memory oc for a short time. but just two days ago, i swapped out the cpus and that fixed the problem, letting it run oc stable again—though now it has only 2 dimms per cpu instead of 3. i’d like to test using the secondary ram slots, but my cooler blocks one of them on each socket, and i’m not sure if that’s supported. maybe i’ll have to remove the board and check the ram slots for any cracked solder on the back.
It's been my primary computer for the past twelve years, with only a few GPU upgrades over that time. The operating system has always been installed consistently, progressing from version 7 to 8 to 10. It still maintains its FPS targets and supports the games I want to play. Since it performs well, why would I invest in replacing it? Its future depends on it, especially with the current limitations of 32GB RAM and slower overall performance.
Could you confirm if you might have unintentionally bent a pin during the swap?
