I attempted to set up Ubuntu 18 LTS but opted not to dual boot. I kept the partitioning unmodified and chose automatic partitioning in Try Ubuntu mode. After installation and restart, I encountered an issue.

Use Ubuntu 20.04 instead of the outdated 18.04. A newer version will run much smoother on a modern system.
