The PC isn't starting properly. I can't even see the boot screen; it just spins the fan without actually launching. The status lights indicate a RAM problem. I've already replaced the RAM twice, but it didn't solve anything. The only way to get it up is through CEMOS—removing the battery from the motherboard and then restarting a few times until the system boots. I build my own PC and have been using it since August 2024. This issue started last week suddenly. My components include an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte B650 gaming x ax v2 motherboard (BIOS version 31), G.Skill DDR5 Flare X5 2x 16GB, 6000 Sapphire, and an AMD Radeon RX 7900X gaming graphics card. The MSI Mag A850 GL PCIe 5 power supply and a 2 TB NVMe SSD are installed. The BIOS update on the site seems risky, but I suspect doing a CEMOS every time I boot could cause more trouble. Is there a way to diagnose what's wrong? After a CEMOS, the PC works normally. I don't have spare parts for testing. I'm not very comfortable with BIOS settings or changes that might affect stability.

Sure, it's not good. Consider what @strange13930 recommended first. Have you refreshed your BIOS recently? Also, test each stick individually, but one at a time. Remove all sticks and attempt to install just one in the PC; if that fails, try the next one.

One simple thing you can try is replacing the CMOS battery. It is a regular CR2032 lithium battery used for watches and remote controls. It may or may not help but it costs so little that it is worth a try.

Really, I should have considered that earlier. It looks like the problem is with just one RAM stick. No idea why the Cemos reset helps, but whatever. I’ll probably try to file a warranty claim. Thanks for helping fix this quickly.

Sometimes folks overlook easy solutions. No worries! Did you know most motherboards have diagnostic lights? They help check if RAM, CPU, GPU, or other components are damaged or improperly connected?
