Hello everyone! This is my first time joining this forum. I’m looking for advice on a problem I’m facing with an older Asus board K8V-X SE connected to an AMD Sempron. The video output uses an AGP ATI Radeon 9250, and everything seems to power up except for a strange click sound from the buzzer once it starts. I’ve tried resetting the BIOS, cleaning the RAM slots, using another CPU, and even plugging in an IDE hard drive (though I don’t know why). The system is running on a generic 450W PSU. What’s going on? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Did you notice any grammar errors in my writing? Please help me improve.

If bloated caps existed, would they pose a risk to nearby components or signal other issues? Are the Sempron units shipped ready to use without modifications? Might the concern stem more from the graphics card than the mainboard itself?

Hi Nicolas, swap that CR2032 battery for a bios battery if you haven’t already. If you test it, anything below 3.0V should be replaced. Notice there are several jumpers on the board—make sure they’re correctly positioned. This board dates back to 2005; I’ll carefully examine it, confirming all parts are securely soldered, since those older models often develop cold joints.

Inspect the north and south bridges, verify they aren't overheating which could cause failure. Boards from that period may experience bios corruption, and as noted earlier, semprons weren't released until later, so they might not work out of the box. Debugging tools are extremely helpful if you can access PCI one.

I examined the board near those caps and noticed no electrolyte leakage. I hadn’t verified if this board originally came with a Sempron without a bios update—since they were designed together, I’ll investigate further! I’m attempting to acquire another graphics card for testing purposes. I tried booting without the card, assuming it might cause an issue, but it didn’t even emit a beep.
