Problem with starting the computer.
Problem with starting the computer.
Hello, this is my first attempt at building a PC. I thought everything was working smoothly until I powered it on for the first time. The RAM came up, but the fans stopped spinning right after a second and then turned off completely. After trying to reboot, I couldn't see the RAM light up or any fans running. When I turned on the power switch on the PSU, I saw blue light briefly on the motherboard, followed by a green flash for a moment, but the PC didn’t boot at all. The motherboard model is B650 Aorus Elite X AX Ice.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
- Replaced the CPU and cooler
- Reseated RAM in different slots
- Reinstalled the 24-pin and 8-pin cables, plus all PSU connections
- Double-checked that every cable was secure
- Removed the GPU to check for issues
- Restarted CMOS
I’ve attached a video showing the motherboard lights after switching the power switch on. It also includes an image of all the cables. If you need more details, just let me know. The footage from when I took off the GPU is missing, which might explain what’s happening.

Check the motherboard for any extra connections. The holes you installed don’t match the correct number of standoffs, which could damage your board if not fixed. Look at the back panel—count the standoff screws or headers. If the case tray is visible, verify the screw count. To test, unplug everything and use a screwdriver to disable the power button, ensuring the header is working properly.
Reviewed the standoffs; the setup uses h6 flow with pre-installed components. The motherboard is in atx format, fitting neatly without extra layers. Tried using a screwdriver, but it’s still not booting—likely a motherboard or power supply issue.
Are those premium white cables part of the power supply unit or are they extensions? If yes, consider removing the extension—it might be defective. Otherwise, use a PSU tester from a friend or a reliable PSU to check. If nothing works, replace it and dispose of the faulty unit.
Good luck with this project. Begin gathering the necessary tools. I don’t know what your current situation is, but I brought my own PSU tester—a decent used GPU from 1050 that’s been built there. If I don’t use the tester, my friends can borrow it.
