Hello everyone, I'm attempting to set up Linux on my HP laptop with the specifications you provided. Currently, Windows is working fine, but when trying Linux the audio issues persist. It seems there might be a driver problem, as similar reports have come in for other models. If anyone has a patch or solution, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll look into it as soon as I can, but I really need a fix for Vannila Arch. I don't like Manjaro much—EOS feels more solid to me.

You're currently using Windows on your main laptop and want to test it on a LiveUSB.

Initially, the contemporary audio setups (jack, pulseaudio, pipewire) are positioned on top of ALSA, meaning if you want to confirm drivers are functioning, you need an ALSA utility for verification. Aplay serves as a lightweight tool for ALSA, capable of directly playing .wav files without relying on higher-level servers such as pipewire. Before proceeding, obtain a .wav file and place it in the directory. Using the command `aplay -l` will display a concise overview of available playback hardware. Running `aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices` will show details like card numbers, device types, and connected monitors.

From the example provided, 'card 0' represents a graphics card, while device 3 is a generic digital output. Subdevices include HDMI and Generic Digital options. The setup illustrates how sound can be routed through ALSA devices—such as the ALC1220 Analog for analog outputs or the ALC1220 Digital for digital connections.

Since monitors without speakers aren't relevant here, we focus on card 2, which is the primary playback device. Testing involves playing a sample file (e.g., sample.wav) via `aplay -D hw:2,0 sample.wav`. Correct execution yields three possible outcomes: successful playback, muted sound requiring amixer adjustments, or an audio error due to resource conflict.

If issues persist, the solution often lies in adjusting system settings or managing ALSA resources. Once sound is confirmed working, further tweaks can be made to ensure optimal behavior from your sound server.

Sound card catalog shows playback devices listed correctly. Card 1 appears as sofhdadsp [sof-hda-dsp]. Device 0 is HDA Analog. Subdevices include HDMI1 and HDMI2 with their respective subdevices. For clarity, the output should reflect sample.wav playing at 44.1kHz stereo. If issues persist, consider adjusting device settings or using a mixer. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hey everyone, after checking some info I discovered that the speakers in my system (ALC245) aren't supported by the Linux kernel right now. The options are either wait or try to create a fix. Appreciate the support!

amixer is a command-line version of alsamixer, functioning mainly as a volume control utility. Launch alsamixer, navigate to f6 to select your card (only one option appears), then use f5 to view all controls. Ensure no unrelated devices are muted by pressing 'm' when channels are chosen. Raise all channels except master to full volume, suggesting around 60%. Test the sound again. There may be additional steps, but recent guides about ALC245 suggest starting with basic fixes rather than diving into advanced driver tweaks. hda-jack-retask is a tool for mapping soundcard outputs to hardware, helping you verify what your driver reports. Be aware that if other devices rely on the card, re-mapping might fail; capturing this process aids future automation. I took this screenshot from a post where I resolved an issue. Check the "show unconnected pins" option. If the setup differs, share a photo. Installing a boot override could help, though its effectiveness depends on your distribution.
