Hey there! I chose ElementaryOS, a Linux distribution based on UBUNTU. I saved the file, used Rufus to create a USB drive, and installed it onto another HDD. After restarting, I got the install window, which looked like I was booting from the USB instead of the usual desktop. There were two options—try or install—and a prompt said, "You can install Elementy from this CD, click install to continue." Need some advice? Thanks!

After another reboot, does it perform the same function?

I haven't attempted a second reboot yet. I'll try it after work today. What makes it work? (Thank you)

It might be unclear which medium it started from. A restart could sometimes resolve the issue.

That was typical, the issue is whether you added it to your hard drive. If you start from USB, it's a Live Boot, it used to be a LiveCD. Yes, you install it, disconnect the USB, and configure boot from your storage device.
