Problem with Ryzen 7 5800X: no speed increase and no clock reduction under idle conditions
Hello, welcome! I understand this is your first build and I’m still learning. I’ve searched many guides but haven’t found a solution that worked. My machine has a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, rated at 3.6GHz base and up to 4.8GHz boost. It started at 4.2GHz regardless of load or idle. After installing Ryzen Master, the boost clock stayed at 4.95GHz in the software, but real speeds never exceeded 4.2GHz.
Even when I changed settings to "Auto OC," the maximum clock never went past 4.2GHz under load. Some cores dropped to 3.6GHz during certain BIOS adjustments, and tweaking TPO didn’t help. I also increased voltage to 1.2V instead of the default 1.1V. Enabling PBO in both BIOS and Ryzen Master didn’t improve performance or clock speeds.
Manually adjusting the CPU frequency in BIOS brought it up to 4.5GHz, but then automatically increased voltage to 1.3V. At idle, it stayed at 4.5GHz. My RAM is set to 3600MHz, and I’ve adjusted Windows CPU power settings to 10% minimum and 100% maximum.
Temperatures are stable around 65°C at full load (4.3GHz) and 71°C at 4.5GHz. The PSU is 850W, and the cooling solution is a Kraken AIO with 280mm. It seems hardware specs and cooling are fine.
Please let me know if this matches what you expected or if you have any tips to try.
Yes, resetting the CMOS should erase all custom BIOS settings.
Resets all configurations and restores the system to its original state
