Problem with RAM module
Problem with RAM module
I have an Asus Z790-E Gaming WIFI and a T-Force Delta DDR5 2x16 6400Mhz ram kit. I spotted an issue because of a small error. A few weeks back I noticed one of the RGB lights wasn’t syncing with the other parts, so I didn’t pay much attention. Recently, while checking Task Manager, I saw only 16 sticks instead of 32 and it mentioned just one DIMM slot was used. I confirmed this in BIOS too—it’s consistent. Today I tried swapping the slots and got a 55 POST (“Memory Not Installed”). I thought both the slot and stick might be faulty. I put them back in and it worked again, but I’m worried something was damaged. I only tested one working stick and still got the same issue. Luckily, it fixed itself now with just one stick. I’d really appreciate some advice on troubleshooting this safely without causing more problems.
The primary issue appears to be a nonfunctional stick requiring return. A frequent workaround for memory slot problems involves checking the CPU cooler mount—such as ensuring it's not misaligned, overly tight, or loose.
I’m not familiar with the technical specifics of memory construction, but DDR5 modules have a lot of circuitry, especially with their own power management. It’s possible the RGB LEDs work even if other components are damaged. Fixing it is straightforward: if the PC won’t boot, the part in the PC is likely faulty. Ideally you’d try it on another system, but that might not be feasible.
Usually, when you file a return, they request the entire item instead of just one part.
