What's up Tech heads? Alright, so I'll list any relevant hardware to the problem below. If anyone helping me needs to know more hardware spec just ask! Mobo: ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-E Gaming Wifi. RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 128GB (4x32GB) DDR5 DRAM 5200MT/s C40 AMD EXPO Memory Kit SKU CMH64GX5M2B5200Z40K CPU: AMD Ryzen 7950x I saw a post that is essentially the same thing I am dealing with except I haven't gotten to the point yet to start performance testing. I didn't want to barge into that post because his hardware is different then mine so what works/does not work could be completely different for my situation. ----Where I'm at---- - This is a fresh build. Tried to start out right by upgrading the BIOS firmware on the mobo to the latest/greatest from Asus. Shipped to me with BIOS firmware version 0514 I upgraded it to version 1004. - I installed Win10 and got past a ton of problems but that's running stable now. Mainly knowing the correct drivers to install. - Keeping everything easily formattable I have done nothing else other then to go back into BIOS and try to turn on the AMD EXPO ram setting. The default "EXPO I" setting results in it not taking and the PC restarts with BIOS going back to defaults. EXPO II and EXPO TWEAKED result in the same thing... the PC never restarts and just hangs with the mobo displaying a "0d" code. This is described as the following in the mobo manual "Reserved for future AMI SEC error codes." Why did I start messing with EXPO settings anyway? Well, we all want to get what we pay for and my ram should be capable of reaching a speed of 5200MT/s. When I look in my BIOS before (trying to) enabling EXPO, it shows that my ram is running at a frequency of 4500 MHz and a DRAM frequency of 3600 MHz. Can anyone help me try to get this working? Happy to provide any additional info to the best of my abilities. This is my first time working with RAM profiles. So I'm not the most knowledgeable for sure. Thank you VERY much for your help!

This situation is going to be challenging. Purchasing two separate DDR5 kits doesn’t ensure compatibility; the storage can vary widely—from Hynix to Micron dies—and they won’t necessarily work together. Only kits sold together are confirmed to function correctly, particularly when using XMP profiles. Still, 128GB of DDR5 poses significant issues. The Ryzen memory controller struggles with high-speed quad rank memory exceeding 4000MT/s. Trying to push it might only get you higher speeds up to around 5200, which is essentially futile. If you require more than 64GB, opt for the 2x48GB kits—they perform adequately at reasonable speeds and reaching 96GB offers a solid upgrade over 64GB. If you don’t need much RAM, consider trading in one of your kits and sticking with 64GB.

From memory of the jays 2 cents video, 4 stick models are limited to 3600 MHz DDR5 underclocking. Jay also struggled significantly with only 64GB of RAM on the same setup; he couldn’t run any Expo and was stuck using JDec timings at around 5200. Trying 64GB might work—see how it performs.

I was aiming for a high-end build setup. But honestly, 64GB should work fine. I’m okay with gaming, but the real priority is handling intensive 4K editing and rendering. Should I opt for 64GB at 4500MHz and 4800MHz RAM, or go with 128GB at 4500MHz and 3600MHz RAM? Thanks for the tip—super helpful! I hadn’t seen that option before. The screenshot clearly shows that 4K rendering caps around 3600MHz regardless. @Ebony Falcon, you’re right. Interestingly, I followed your suggestion and @RONOTHAN## tried a 64GB setup with only two sticks. It didn’t work. Disappointing since this was supposed to be a great upgrade. More about it? I installed just one 32GB stick in B2 and A2, but the PC wouldn’t boot. It showed a C5 error on the motherboard display. Eventually I switched back to BIOS, raised the RAM speed to 4800MHz, saved the settings, and added both sticks. Once the PC started up, no more C5 errors. Next time I adjusted the BIOS again, raising DRAM speed to 4800MHz. It seems my build is leaning toward either a single 32GB stick at 4800MHz or two 64GB sticks at 3600MHz. Unless there’s a way to tweak latency or something similar, I guess I’ll settle for what’s available now. Maybe keep an eye out for future AM5 models that support stable performance with larger capacities. Any other advice? Thanks!

It’s likely many boards support 64GB Expo, but Asus is facing some issues right now.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of criticism after reading the comments. Explored a lot of concerns about Asus mobos and DDR5 at the EXPO. I've never used an Asus board before—things are working out fine! Just keep learning.

I owned three Asus boards with Z97 models, an AM4 crosshair hero z370 maximus hero. They all performed well, though it seems they were aimed at higher-end systems rather than mid-range ones. The 64GB Expo version didn’t seem to cause any issues.
