Problem with QuestionPC System Failure
I want to provide a thorough account, so please forgive the length. My initial computer purchase was in 2015 – a pre-assembled Alienware x51. Last November, I embarked on an upgrade process. Immediately following the initial graphics card update, problems began to surface. Assuming incompatibility between my older hardware and newer components, I replaced every part except the hard drive. A complete list of my PC’s current specifications is provided below. (Please note: I performed a factory reset to Windows 10 around the time of the initial upgrade, although I’m uncertain whether that occurred before or after). It’s unclear whether this issue stems from a greater number of games or simply this particular title, given that I rarely play anything beyond Runescape – a relatively simple game. Typically, this freezing happens when Dota 2 is running concurrently with Chrome, but it has occasionally occurred without Chrome open. The original Alienware system functioned perfectly without any issues, leading me to believe the root cause is unidentified.
The specific problem is that Dota 2 freezes, rendering me unable to interact with the game. The desktop appears unresponsive; I can move icons on the taskbar, but they remain displaced after the system freezes. Beyond this, my understanding of the full extent of the problem is limited because I am largely unable to perform most tasks while it’s frozen. Notably, during Discord calls, I can still hear conversations but am unable to speak.
The following steps have been attempted:
Updating drivers
Running a disk check within the command prompt
The taskbar icons will revert to their original positions after the system becomes unresponsive. When it locks up, it will pause at whatever location it was moved to. Here are the components for my computer:

What manufacturer and model is your power supply?
After installing the new video card, when did you experience the problem and did you use your original video card to confirm if the issue stemmed from the replacement?
This power supply unit is a Thermaltake Smart 500W, certified with an 80+ White rating, featuring continuous power delivery and a 120mm cooling fan. It’s an ATX 12V V2.3/EPS 12V Active PFC power supply (model PS-SPD-0500NPCWUS-W). I intended to evaluate the computer system with its original graphics card, but it’s unavailable for testing, and I do not currently possess that component.
When you indicated you performed a “factory reset” of Windows 10 during your graphics card upgrade, it’s likely you require a complete reinstallation of Windows 10. Following a motherboard change, you could encounter a significant number of driver complications.
