Problem with ping in online games
When I play games like Rocket League, Apex Legends and Minecraft I experience ping over 100 which isn't ideal. However, my ping tests on cmd show consistently under 10. My brother doesn't face the same problems even though he uses a wired connection. Is there a solution to improve this?
It’s frustrating when the ping hits 100… I’m used to lower numbers, usually around 150 or 200. When many family members are using the internet at once, it can slow things down, leading to high pings. In places with lots of players, like Roblox servers, good WiFi is essential because their servers aren’t optimized and streaming uses a lot of bandwidth.
My experience is similar. I play Minecraft with my siblings on the same WiFi, which has about four people using it. It gets slow sometimes due to limited spectrum, and in Hawaii the lowest ping I’ve seen is at least 70—so it’s normal for us to have over 100 ping while the average is around 200, which is still acceptable.
When playing PUBG, my ping stays near 200, but Roblox can spike up to 1000, making it hard to play. Also, when the WiFi router gets hot, it throttles speed to prevent overheating. Sometimes I unplug it for a few minutes to let it cool down, and it works again. I’m thinking about adding a USB cooling fan to avoid this issue.
Most of the time our connection is slow because of our service provider, but I don’t complain much since upgrading would be expensive. Storms can also affect performance.
I use wireless internet in my sister’s room, which is wired to ours via Ethernet. Even though she plays on her PS4, it has a more stable connection compared to Minecraft, which is still decent but not as reliable.
