Hey everyone,

I assembled my PC back in February, and everything worked perfectly until recently. Suddenly, it began shutting down without warning and restarting right away. This typically occurs when under stress (such as gaming), but I’ve also seen it happen occasionally even when the system is idle on the Windows desktop.

The pattern is unpredictable:
At times I can play games for two hours before it crashes
Other times, it restarts within minutes after launching a game

What I've Tried So Far (Without Success):
- Updated BIOS
- Updated all drivers
- Clean install of NVIDIA drivers (without DDU)
- Disabled EXPO profile
- Undervolting the GPU and returning to default settings — no improvement
- Used different 12V power cables; the MSI GPU came with one (3 to 1 split); the Corsair PSU model (2 to 1 split)
- Inspected for visual damage on the 12V cables and re-seated them

Temperature & Power Details:
GPU Temperature:
Remains below 65°C
CPU Temperature:
Stays under 50°C
PCIe 12V Rail:
(checked via HWInfo): Never drops below 12V

PCPartPicker Part List:
CPU:
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D 4.1 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler:
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
(€45.89 @ Proshop)
Motherboard:
Asus ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI Mini ITX AM5 Motherboard
(€256.89 @ Proshop)

Memory:
G.Skill Flare X5 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
(€212.63 @ Proshop)

Storage:
Lexar NM790 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD
(€269.17 @ Proshop)

Video Card:
MSI VENTUS 3X OC PLUS GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB Video Card
(€1459.00 @ Alza)

Power Supply:
Corsair SF850 (2024) 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
(€197.57 @ Proshop)

I’ve read that the RTX 5080 could be sensitive to sudden power spikes, where it briefly consumes much more current. Could my Platinum-rated power supply be triggering a shutdown in response? Any suggestions on what might be behind this issue would be greatly appreciated. I’m running out of options and would value any advice from others who’ve faced similar problems.

Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Updated BIOS
For clarity, please mention the BIOS version.
Perform a clean install of NVIDIA drivers (excluding DDU).
It’s recommended to use DDU in Safe Mode to eliminate all GPU drivers (intel, AMD, and Nvidia), then manually install the newest GPU driver from Nvidia's support site using an elevated command—Right click the installer and select Run as Administrator. Also consider disabling the iGPU in BIOS before running DDU.
You might also want to check if another PSU with higher power capacity is available, to avoid system overload.
Reboots during heavy usage may occur for two reasons:
1) Overheating problem
2) The PSU can't supply enough power under load

Thank you for your prompt response.
I have updated to the newest Bios version (3222) from the official rog.asus website.
I am currently away from home and will test the driver reinstall with DDU soon. If this doesn't resolve the issue, I will consider purchasing a 1000W PSU for testing.

Updated the drivers that had DDU issues and tried again, but it didn’t work. I then sent a return request to Corsair, believing an 850W would fit well in my system now.

So I switched the PSU and it’s still occurring (and all cables). A fresh install of Windows is still in progress. Tried different RAM sticks, but it keeps happening. Removed the graphics card and ran with internal graphics instead. Performed a stress test using OCCT, and the CPU temperature never exceeded 63°C. I’m not sure what else I should try... Anyone can help me out.
