A year ago I assembled a PC with these components: motherboard, power supply, CPU, graphics card, RAM, and a few accessories. It functioned smoothly until recently when it shut down unexpectedly while idle. No indicators appeared from the motherboard, and the repair shop discovered the PSU was damaged by an electrical fault. They also found melted plastic on the power cable, so I swapped both cables and extension cord. For a month afterward everything seemed normal until today’s failure. When trying to boot it, it refused again. I checked for lights and noticed the Ethernet port still had power. After disconnecting and waiting, it worked this time. Now I’m experiencing the same problem after several attempts to turn it on. Is the PSU defective? Any suggestions on further troubleshooting or possible causes?

There might be various factors leading the PSU into protection mode. It could stem from the PSU itself or another component, making it hard to pinpoint. Past experiences show that even swapping out the PSU power cable didn’t resolve the issue, and removing the 24-pin M.2 slot didn’t help either. I’m sure others with more knowledge will shed light on these problems.
