Problem with PC - black screen, fans running
Hello,
I’ve been experiencing issues where my PC crashes while playing games, especially in more demanding titles such as RDR2 or Atomic Heart. These crashes occur only during heavier games and not during stress tests, unlike in games like CS2. The crash happens suddenly—PC shuts down completely, fans spin wildly, the screen goes black, and audio stops. Restarting is only possible by powering off the machine.
I’ve tried almost everything: reinstalled drivers, updated Windows, refreshed BIOS, ran SFC/scannow, disabled C state control in BIOS, disabled Fastboot, changed the PSU to Corsair RM1000X and connected it to a wall outlet, replaced the entire case, re-seated all cables, and checked every component for damage. I even tested RAM with Memtest and games crashed even when Expo was off.
The GPU still crashes at default settings despite being connected to two 6+2 pins, and it’s not overheating. CPU, GPU, and SSDs are performing well in tests. System details:
- GPU: XFX RX 6800
- CPU: Ryzen 5 7600 (water cooled)
- RAM: Patriot Viper Venom 32 GB 6000 MHZ DDR5
- MBO: MSI PRO B650-S WIFI

Updated BIOS
For relevance, note the BIOS version on your motherboard. Was the iGPU turned off in BIOS?
Switched PSU from 850w to Corsair RM1000x and connected PC to the wall. Did you upgrade from an RM850x to an RM1000x? Were previous PSU cables recycled?
Reinstalled Windows
Are you using Windows 10 or 11? Where did you obtain the installer? Did you install the OS offline, disconnecting all drives except the one for installation? Did you install all necessary drivers manually in elevated command mode while offline?

If using an AIO, provide its make and model. What temperatures are you observing for CPU and GPU during idle and load?

I replaced the entire case, disconnecting and reconnecting all cables. I also tried reseating each component.
What case were you working with before, and what system did you migrate to?
Hello, thank you for your response. Now, regarding the questions:
I am using the most recent BIOS version: 7E26v1L.
For the PSU, I corrected my earlier mention—850W is incorrect, it's 750W. I changed from a Gigabyte Aorus 750W 80+ GOLD to Corsair RM1000x ATX 3.1. I did not recycle the cables.
I have tested both Windows 10 and 11, downloaded the installation media directly from Microsoft and transferred it to USB, which I then booted into. I did not install it in offline mode and did not disconnect all drives, but I formatted them. I also downloaded all drivers from the AMD website and used ddu without an internet connection to install them.
I am using the Arctic Freezer III 360 Pro for the CPU.
My storage setup includes a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB (OS installed) and an Adata XPG GAMIX S11 PRO 512 GB.
I don’t remember the name of my previous case, but it was from Deepcool, and I moved to a Lian Li Lancool 217.
It could be related to the GPU, but there might be other factors at play. Make sure to check your GPU and temperatures; overheating on either component could cause issues.
