Today my computer stopped working suddenly. I have an AMD Graphics card (RX 6800). While playing a game, it crashed with a black screen and a Windows error sound. I restarted, but now the driver is set to the default one. I tried DDU, but the problem persists. The monitor still won't turn on, though I can hear the Windows startup sound.
The screen appears to be working, but opening the AMD Driver Software triggers an alert. Also, I didn't realize I was using the AMD software for underclocking the GPU.

There are two approaches:
Initially - Use GPO to prevent Windows Updates from installing drivers. This method applies only to Windows Pro. A workaround exists for Home, though you'll need to look it up.
Open Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update Enable the policy "Do not include drivers with Windows Update". Then download DDU and the driver from the AMD website. Restart your computer in safe mode (search online for instructions) and run DDU. This clears all driver issues, making it seem as though no drivers were installed. Restart normally. Your fix might be off, but it’s likely because the driver wasn’t installed. Install the driver you downloaded from AMD.

Remove Radeon software installation. Navigate to "Add and remove programs" and uninstall it. Download the Microsoft Store-specific Radeon Software app from the provided link. It’s a store version that works with the MS driver forced by updates.

Compare the AMD driver with the Store version. You can verify the driver version in Device Manager for the Display adapter. It should start with v30, while the AMD driver starts with v27 (for Windows 10), and this differs between Windows 10 and 11. The AMD driver updates more often for new games, so if you play the latest titles, you’ll benefit from it. The MS driver is an older version included in the update servers and receives fewer updates.
