Problem with new build PC not starting (for beginners)
I'm having trouble locating the connection point for this plug.
Check out this thread about building computers—it can be challenging at first, so it might offer useful tips for listing your specs on forums.
What you see on your left hand (thank you for the ESD wrist strap) is a traditional Molex connector (in everyday terms). Of course, I might be mistaken and that black strap could belong to a watch. Unless you possess some very outdated hardware in your current setup, the conclusion is clear: "it doesn't fit anywhere."
Molex connectors were once common for older IDE hard disk drives and parallel ATA DVD drives prior to SATA's rise. You might occasionally encounter devices that still use Molex, such as inexpensive case fans, but generally they remain unused.
Be sure no metal objects intrude into the terminals with the red +5V and yellow +12V wires; otherwise, you'll witness a strong spark. I cover the ends of Molex connectors with insulating tape to guard against accidental short circuits.
When discussing one half of the 8-way EPS12V connector, which you've split in two, it could be due to using the incorrect connector for the motherboard or inserting it incorrectly. The two 4-way connectors are "keyed" to help ensure proper insertion once all eight wires are accepted by the board. Remove the 4-way connector from the motherboard and examine the plastic insulation around the terminals, comparing it with the other end. Look for any distinctions. On the motherboard, inspect the top of the 4-way connector and align it with the corresponding connector on the PSU lead. Insert the plug carefully into the socket and confirm a secure fit. Push down firmly; if the connector doesn't reach the bottom, you've made an error.
