Hi everyone, I just assembled a new PC without my GTX 970. Games such as Conan Exiles, The Outer Worlds, and Age of Empires 3 DE all perform poorly. I usually manage around 20-30 fps on medium to high settings. When I tried Age of Empires 3 DE at the lowest settings, I got about 57 fps. I’d really appreciate any advice since I’m puzzled about my low performance. I understand my setup isn’t cutting-edge, but I was hoping for better results.

My PC specs:
Core i7-10700K 3.8ghz
GeForce GTX 970
Asus TUF Gaming Z490-Plus
G.Skill Aegis 2x16GB DDR4-3200
Adata XPG Gammix S5 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD
Thermaltake TPD-0750M 750W Gold
LG G-SYNC monitor 3440x1440 @ 120hz
Nothing has been overclocked

check the connection directly to the GPU rather than the motherboard.

Checked CPU and GPU temperatures and usage while playing. Was a new OS installed?

CPU usage ranges from 36 to 45% while GPU utilization is at 75%. A new operating system was recently installed.

Get MSI Afterburner and configure the fan curve. The temperature is high, so lower those readings.

I would think GPU is close to its maximum with those temperatures and CPU around 30-50, though it's just a guess. I have a 10700k that typically stays in the 40s during light use.

Have you never worked with MSI before? What temperature range should I be targeting?
