I've been using an Inspiron 5680 for about a year and a half. About six months ago, I disconnected the power from the motherboard and now the lights are extremely dim, making it hard to see anything. Any advice?

It seems there might be a problem with the CMOS battery or motherboard chip. Try charging the CMOS battery and see if it works. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to replace the motherboard.

Or another wild thought... dust might be the issue? You mentioned front panel lights, and after a year and a half of use, if you didn’t clean it, the front panel could look a bit dusty... maybe inspect it first.
