Problem with high-end PC shutting down instantly under heavy CPU use, but no blue screen appears.
My high-end PC tends to shut down instantly when I launch my own Python-based AI video processing program. This occurs only with a specific video clip, while all others function normally. It seems the issue lies within that particular clip. No other software on this system causes such a shutdown.
According to previous discussions, it appears the power supply unit (PSU) is likely tripping a protection circuit, preventing any normal shutdown. This explanation fits the scenario where only the PSU reacts to this clip.
I’ve tried several fixes—turning off the PSU, disabling third-party software, adjusting BIOS settings—but nothing resolved the problem. The only successful solution was disabling DOCP and reverting to default BIOS memory settings.
This raises concerns about a possible Ryzen-specific issue with running at 3600Mhz on the CPU memory controller. I’m also wondering if this could be related to the RAM I recently purchased, which is certified by the manufacturer. It’s unclear how such a configuration might trigger the PSU to shut down immediately.
I’m not using any overclocking for GPU or CPU, and the RAM was set to its default profile. The problem was consistently reproducible during software execution on this clip. I’m seeking further insights before investing in a larger PSU, fearing it might still be problematic.
System details:
- Motherboard: ASUS Hero VIII X570 (BIOS stock)
- CPU: Ryzen 5950X (stock settings, no overclock)
- RAM: 64GB G.Skill TridentZ Neo 3600 (32GB x 2)
- GPU: Gigabyte 4080 Gaming OC (stock settings)
- PSU: EVGA 750 G3 Supernova GOLD
- Cooling: EK AIO 360 Elite RGB (6 fans, case with 8)
- Case: HAF 700 EVO
Cooling: CPU - EK AIO 360 Elite RGB (6 fan push pull) with an additional 8 fans in the case.
What orientation does the AIO have in your setup? Is it positioned on top or front of the case? If it's on top, are the heatsinks coming out from the radiator?
This isn't a basic build – the PSU is a bit underpowered, but there are no issues so far.
Power Supply: EVGA 750 G3 Supernova GOLD
How long has the PSU been installed in your system? Have you considered getting a more reliable donor PSU from a friend or neighbor, ensuring it provides at least 85W for the whole system?
Just a note, a PC can shut down immediately if either:
1) It overheats
or
2) The PSU fails to supply enough power under load.
Hi, thanks for your response. AIO is positioned at the top of the case venting out, which shouldn’t cause air trapping in the CPU block if that was your concern—similar issues have been covered in GamersNexus videos. The other point I had in mind is using Fan Control (v175) with a profile to keep the machine quieter during operation, which limits fan speeds unless under load and also prevents the CPU pump from running at full noise levels. My PSU is a newer model; I purchased it second-hand a few years ago for a previous 3070 build on the same motherboard and case. I don’t know anyone who could lend their PSU.
