Problem with Green Screen (Blue Screen) during idle time for extended periods
Problem with Green Screen (Blue Screen) during idle time for extended periods
Began to occur
start date approx July 1st 2023
While I was offline or idle for about twenty minutes, my computer would display a green screen (the green color comes from the Insider version of Windows). I suspect the issue might be related to my hard drive or SSD.
I’m compiling a list of actions taken and additional details about other problems I’ve experienced. I also want to preserve important files across both drives.
MAIN CONCERN
- Each time I experience a blue screen, I see the message “Reboot and Select proper boot device,” then press power once and it shuts down; pressing it again restarts normally. After the blue screen, I notice errors like:
0xc0000218
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
- I tried running chkdsk after resetting the PC, but it still blue-screened during Phase 4.
- During idle periods, I encountered errors such as:
“0xc0000218” – BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO
“KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR”
“CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED”
“UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION”
- While attempting to use chkdsk, I was using Magic Bullet Looks and would freeze when trying to open it, causing a blue screen.
After cleaning up, I performed Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, and then ran sfc/scannow.
I attached the CBS log provided:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1...sp=sharing
- I performed error checking by right-clicking each drive and going to Properties, then Tools.
I attempted to reinstall Windows using MediaCreationTool22H2.exe, but it failed with the error 0xC1900101 – 0x30018 during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE.
While following some tutorials, I tried backing up my registry via Registry Editor (File > Export), but both the D: drive and a USB drive caused the same error: “Cannot export D:\caden\Regit Save\Backup 7 28.reg: Error writing the file. Possible disk or file system issues.”
Small update
I managed to reinstall Windows 10, but the problem persisted. I discovered that my SSD seems to disconnect intermittently, which likely triggers the blue screen. I’m unsure why the 2TB SSD is failing, though it works fine with my 1TB hard drive. I checked this by entering BIOS after a BSOD and before the “Reboot and select…” prompt appeared, finding the SSD missing from Boot Option Priorities.
Normally, the display would be:
Boot Option #1 – Windows Boot Manager (P0: TEAM T253X2512G)
Boot Option #2 – P1: ST2000DM008-2FR102
Boot Option #3 – P0: TEAM T253X2512G
After the disconnection or BSOD, the display would revert to:
Boot Option Priorities – same as above
Main SSD – TEAMGROUP GX2 512GB
HHD – Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal…
(Additional details omitted for brevity)")
I don’t have hibernation enabled, but my temporary solution involves a program named Caffeine that keeps the PC active by clicking F15 periodically. This resolves the idle issue, though my SSD still faces other problems. Recently, I received a Crucial T500 1TB M.2 to replace my existing SSD and attempted to clone both my SSD files and Windows to the new device. I encountered errors and blue screens during the cloning process using Macrium Reflect. One observation was that while reviewing the SSD in Task Manager, read and write speeds reached maximum and then dropped sharply to zero before the system shut down completely.
