Problem with GPU on Asus Dual 6700XT Encountering issues with the graphics card on your Asus Dual 6700XT.
I've shared this on the graphics cards forum too, but I realized this community is better suited for it. Over the past couple of years since switching from a 1050 Ti to a 6700XT, I've faced consistent problems with my PC. I wasn't sure if the issue was related to my GPU, as they rarely fail, but it's getting more likely. I've improved my CPU, cooler, and RAM, yet the problems persisted. I've checked online forums for others with similar experiences, but so far, no matches.
The main issue that keeps appearing (monthly to daily) for at least a year is my screen going black randomly, followed by loss of signal and an automatic reboot due to corrupted display drivers. I can fix the driver problem by quickly powering off or restarting the PC using case buttons, but it remains frustrating. This tends to happen more often when switching between fullscreen or windowed apps, opening/closing files, or even just randomly.
I've also noticed flickering and static-like distortion on the screen during app transitions, especially in League of Legends. It affects UI elements like the minimap or settings icon, not the entire display. In some cases, it starts in the browser and distorts the whole window, sometimes showing horizontal black lines—especially with YouTube.
After re-seating the GPU, replacing the DP cable, and switching to HDMI, the issue seems mostly resolved except for League, where the flickering is reproducible but settles after a few tabbing sessions or waiting a bit. The most recent problem is when the monitor loses signal completely after restarts, shutdowns, or cable changes. Removing and re-plugging the GPU into the PCIe slot seems to fix it, though I'm worried this could become a recurring issue.
The GPU stays cool and performs well (as seen online), even though it's plugged into a PCIe 3x16 slot and still under warranty. Since plugging it in or booting up doesn't seem to cause problems, I don’t have strong reasons to return it.
I haven’t replaced my PSU, motherboard, or monitor yet—all of which are from late 2019 or mid-2020. My specs include a R7 5700X, 6700XT, 32GB 3200MHz CL16 RAM, Samsung 970 Evo Plus (512GB), Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD, ASRock B450M Pro4, Corsair CV550 PSU, Zalman S4 case, and a Gigabyte M27Q monitor.
I'm wondering if anyone has faced similar issues, and is my GPU the main culprit? I’m not sure—I could replace the PSU, but it would be a waste of money since the fans run and the CPU keeps working during failures. Upgrading the motherboard isn’t appealing either, as it’s outdated and would be costly compared to getting a new GPU.
