Hey everyone, good morning. I recently replaced my motherboard with the MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX, moving from an older model. I'm running a Ryzen 7 2700X and had some Corsair RAM that was clocking around 2800 MHz. Since I play a lot of games, I decided to upgrade and bought faster RAM online. The new board should handle it, so I thought it wouldn't cause any problems. I chose 16 GB of teamgroup t-force Vulcan Z DDR4 at 3600 MHz. I installed the new board a day before the RAM, booted up, and tested everything. It worked fine except for some Realtek audio driver issues—those are for another time. When the RAM arrived the next day, I powered down the PC, unplugged it, and put the new sticks in slots 2 and 4. After setting up and rebooting to apply an XMP profile, things started working smoothly. I admit my understanding of this stuff is still limited. My old board used DOCP and auto-set profiles for the RAM I had at that time. After a reboot and confirming the 3600 MHz, I restarted the PC and began playing games as usual. Then the problem appeared: whenever I opened a 3D app, it would freeze for a while before crashing. I initially thought it was just Tarkov, but it also affected Dark Souls III, Halo 3, and Star Wars Battlefront II. Eventually, the PC shut down completely and restarted itself. I gave up trying to fix it and reinstalled the original RAM after disabling XMP, since stability was deteriorating. I’m hoping I can use the faster RAM now but don’t know why it’s failing. Could I have set XMP wrong? Is this just defective RAM? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ~Clay~
