I encountered a strange problem with my Seagate Desktop 8TB External HDD – USB 3.0. It began showing bad sectors, so I swapped it out and replaced it again. After some time, the issue reappeared in the Event Viewer: an IO operation at logical block address 0x0 for Disk 4 failed due to a hardware fault. I reached out to Seagate for a replacement (RMA) and have been using this drive since March 9, 2023. Recently, two days ago the errors started again. Interestingly, this happens only when the drive is connected via USB, but not when it’s plugged in after booting. The drive seems fine otherwise—Crystal Disk Info shows no issues, and Windows 11 installs without problems. It appears the errors trigger only during USB connection. I’m on a new motherboard and CPU, and I haven’t had any other computers experience this. The USB port itself doesn’t seem to be the root cause. ****UPDATE: Seems like any USB HDD connected to USB causes trouble *** ****UPDATE: Only one USB HDD caused issues; others worked fine after reboot* I tried removing the problematic drive and keeping the one mentioned in this post. After rebooting, no errors appeared—possibly the port or connection was the issue. Could be a port problem.

I haven't made any changes to the USB ports or performed a BIOS update.

Updated the USB ports, could you give more details? The issues began two days ago, even though I haven’t changed the BIOS. The errors started appearing over the past two days. I’ve had this MOBO since January and the HDD since March. It’s hard to believe a BIOS update would help—someone else is facing problems with newer BIOS versions on my MOBO, so I’m unsure if updating is the right move.
