Problem with Ethernet connection on new laptop
Problem with Ethernet connection on new laptop
Hey there, welcome! I'm still figuring out the best way to share this. It seems I got a bit mixed up while setting everything up. After starting the build, everything went well until I tried to power it on. The first thing that didn’t work was turning it on, which led me to check the motherboard manual. I messed up the placement of the connectors on the front panel, and that caused a problem. When I finally turned it on, there was a loud pop and smoke came out. I figured out the issue was with a 3-pin RGB connector I had connected incorrectly. After fixing that, the system booted fine, and I was able to upgrade my RAM to 3200MHz and install Windows.
Then there was another hiccup when trying to connect my Ethernet cable. It didn’t work at all, though I could sometimes get online. The yellow light on the port flashed but not the green one. Now I’m not sure what to do next. I’ve tried fresh drivers, but I know the cable works with other devices. I’ve attached a parts list for reference. Let me know if you need anything clarified!
Attempt to return the item, but be aware there might be issues because you mistakenly connected the incorrect device to your RGB header, which could lead to them rejecting your claim or requiring you to cover repair costs since the damage resulted from your actions.
Submitted a query to Newegg and am currently awaiting their reply.
The green LED near the ethernet port is when you have an active connection. If the port is reported as working properly by the device manager, then it's not the port, it's your settings. At the bottom right of the task bar, right click the little Ethernet icon and trouble shoot the problems. Seek the repair after windows displays the issue and even sometimes repairs by it's self. GL
It's possible to encounter similar issues with a new laptop once. I didn't notice it until later because it was frequently connected to Wi-Fi. You might want to check if DHCP is enabled or disabled. There should be no reason for it to be off, though I've seen other odd behaviors in Windows.
Alright, here we go. Consider another cable. It's fine; no worries. You're already in the return process.
