I have a brand new build and I want to hook it up to Ethernet but the lights are not going on when I plug it into the port on the wall. I have the latest networking drivers that I can have and I do not know what is wrong. Is there a way for me to figure out whether my board is busted or its my port without moving my whole setup across my apartment? My mobo is asrock b450m-HDV.

It seems like the issue might be with the port on the wall rather than your motherboard.

Use the router directly on your PC if it shows a connection; otherwise, verify the wall port or cable is functional. It might be a loose wire, incorrect wiring choice, or the cable wasn’t installed properly. Ensure the PC operates first before checking the cabling. For testing cables, a proper method is recommended—consider a cable tester for accuracy. A basic continuity tester works but may not reach both ends reliably. A decent cat 5 port tester costs around $30 at most suppliers.
