Problem with computer not starting—fails to boot and crashes during BIOS setup after several attempts
Hi all,
Background:
I've been building an Unraid PC setup. Everything worked smoothly when booting from a thumb drive. I chose to dual boot with an older Windows installation on a SATA SSD (an earlier version of this machine). It functioned well. Then I switched to Unraid and configured the drive as a virtual machine.
Problem start:
I powered off the system for a few days. Attempted to boot directly into Windows—it kept powercycling and didn't display any post screens. I managed to get it into the boot manager, but it crashed before any options appeared. Now it continues powercycling and sometimes returns to the same boot manager, where it crashes again.
What I've tried:
- Reset CMOS (removed battery and used jumper method)
- Re-seated CPU
- Disconnected all peripherals
- Re-seated RAM, downgrading to a single stick. Tried various sticks in different slots.
- Swapped Power Supply – Now it won't even attempt to boot. Just keeps powercycling endlessly.
Is this machine still operational? It seems unusual that it stopped working without any physical changes.
System specs:
Older model but previously functional. i7 2700k, 32GB RAM, integrated GPU, 850 watt PSU.
