Hi, the freezing problems seem linked to RAM. Your wife’s PC ran smoothly on an older system, but after installing the new RAM, it still freezes intermittently. Memtest86 didn’t reveal any errors, so it might not be a RAM issue anymore. You’re curious if a power supply could be causing this—this is unusual for her setup.

Are there any details in your Windows Event Viewer? If it freezes, it might be due to several factors like GPU, CPU, RAM, or power supply issues. Please share the full specifications and dates of the components, especially for PSU and SSDs, which are often the first to fail.

Purchased several components this year including an Asus AM4 WiFi plus, Corsair vengeance 4x8GB DDR4, and a nearly new 970 Evo 1TB drive checked for disk health. The PSU appears to be around seven years old, and both the graphics card and the motherboard are also seven years old. I managed to open Event Viewer 6000 and encountered an issue with "Faulting application name: backgroundTaskHost.exe" (code 0x00000000000072d03). The event ID was 1000.

from the microsoft forum the error message "Faulting application name: backgroundTaskHost.exe" suggests a problem with Windows. It’s likely an update caused an issue, so running "sfc /scannow" and using DISM might help. You can find detailed steps in the provided guides, including commands for DISM if needed.

SFC/scannow ran in safe mode and detected corrupt files; they were repaired successfully. Hopefully that resolves the issue. Thanks for your assistance. The fix seems to work now—still freezing on a fresh install, but that’s expected. Appreciate the support!

windows often faces unexpected problems in unusual ways, which is why I’m surprised it can be resolved with a new setup. Still, it’s good to know I contributed to the fix.

It was paused for more than an hour, then I had to restart, but the screen didn’t show instructions for entering BIOS or the lights stayed off. I’m pretty sure her computer has a problem.

The drama suggests a memory issue, maybe the RAM isn't properly seated. Have you attempted to reinsert them? Fixing this often resolves the problem.
