Problem with Brother's Roommate's Computer
Hey there. My brother wanted to know if I could help his roommate's computer. The CPU was getting too hot. I just applied new thermal paste, installed the cooler, and turned it on—it shut off after pressing the power button. Maybe I mounted the cooler incorrectly, so I repositioned it. Still no luck. Took out the CPU, put it back in, but it still doesn't work. It won't even start properly before turning off. You know how it is—lights flicker a lot. Got any suggestions?
The GPU is an RTX 3080. I recall the CPU being an i9 Intel. Hopefully I captured a picture of the CPU, but I didn't expect to need to visit here.
After leaving it for a while, it eventually powered up. But without a display, it wouldn't turn on anymore. It seems the cooler might be faulty. My brother is considering a replacement or refilling the liquid. I don’t have any experience with liquid cooling. The specs are: Corsair 400D ATX Mid-Tower, Intel i9-11900k, CyberPowerPC MasterLiquid Lite 120mm CPU Liquid Cooler, 16GB DDR4/3000MHz memory (Crucial Ballistix Sport), MSI Z590 PRO WIFI ATX, and an nVidia RTX 3080 GPU.
Not only new but much larger one, That's one hot mother of CPU, a good AIO 360 would do with some undervolting.
There are some affordable double tower air coolers that provide good performance for their price.
I would choose this model. The main thing to consider is possibly adjusting the fan height for better clearance over RAM sticks.
There are more budget-friendly options from the same brand around 36 dollars that also work well.
With an air cooler, you avoid issues like pump failure, coolant leakage, or coolant seepage.
