Hi everyone. Welcome! I’m new to this forum, so please forgive if it’s not the right spot for this issue. I just upgraded my graphics card to an Asus Raideon R 7 240 and installed it on a mini desktop PC with a Core 2 Quad Q9400 CPU, 6 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM (it’s an HP 6000 Pro PC). I’m running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

While playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag, I noticed my frame rate drops to around 20-25 FPS at 720p, and it gets even lower when I try to boost settings. Looking at my CPU and GPU stats, the CPU is only at 20% usage and the GPU is at 80%. My question is: is there a bottleneck here? I’d love to see the GPU use 100% more often to get a smoother frame rate. It only happens in Battlefield 4, which runs fine with full GPU usage most of the time.

I’ve got all the latest drivers installed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Your CPU runs at 20% while the GPU is at 80%, meaning the CPU isn't limiting performance. Consider installing MSI Afterburner or AMD Overdrive to boost the power cap by 20%, which often resolves performance problems.

It's mainly due to the black flag being poorly optimized, which can lead to low frame rates. Could you confirm the resolution you're using and the current settings?

You're checking if you're actually overclocking or not while using the Asus GPU tweak tool.

I'm testing the game at 720p while analyzing performance with off and other settings in medium to low quality.

They're suggesting a different approach rather than overclocking. Your card will run at normal speeds, but you'll ask it to consume more power than the default settings. Your friend using an R9 280 achieved similar success by applying the same method. It seems Asus software could also help, as their versions are essentially the same but with different skins.

It increases the upper limit instead of adding to usage automatically. It provides extra space when required.
