Problem with black screen on new 3060 Ti graphics card
I've just set up my new MSI 3060 Ti with three fans and eight gigabits, but I'm facing problems when running demanding games. If I play titles like Apex, MW2 or PUGBO, both my monitors flicker and shut down while the graphics stay on. My RGB stays active but the sound cuts out after a short time. This doesn't happen with simpler games such as Terraria. When I power off the PC and unplug it, the games run smoothly for about 5 to 10 minutes and the GPU stays around 60°C consistently. I have many RGB and power-hungry components with a 650W 80+ Gold supply, so it might be related. Any advice would be appreciated?
Verify both displays are linked to the graphics card and confirm neither is attached to the motherboard. Check if it's a brand new 3060Ti or a used unit, as this impacts potential mining use. For drivers, attempt uninstalling and reinstalling them; obtain all from NVIDIA’s official site. Recommended to clean install via custom setup and enable “Clean Install” each time you update. Consider switching to NVIDIA GeForce Experience post-uninstall for optimal driver management. Given the 489W power draw, assess your PSU capacity—consider an 850W 80+ Gold unit if planning future upgrades. A 750W PSU is sufficient now but may need replacement later when expanding CPU or motherboard. Prioritize these steps before proceeding.
I noticed comparable problems with Ryzen related to RAM stability. The SKU on your RAM isn’t listed on the Qualified Vendor List for that board, which could affect performance or reliability. It doesn’t guarantee it will work perfectly, but it might not deliver optimal results. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z490...upport#mem
It also relies on whether there were prior problems. I understand 3600MHz can be reliable, but 3200MHz tends to perform better, which is why I often suggest that frequency.
I might mention that mine took a few weeks to begin behaving oddly, but once it did... OH, BOY... It would freeze in sleep mode every time. Every 8-12 cold boots, I had to open it and reinsert the RAM / GPU / verify cable connections for no-video startup. I even experimented with a vertical GPU mount and riser cable. Nothing worked until I replaced the RAM with a kit that met QVL standards. Also, many claim they want what looks good or what they think they need, regardless of whether the board actually supports it. I demonstrated to someone that their board could handle 3200 in their preferred series, but not 3600. They still ordered 3600, even though they wouldn’t notice the difference unless the board is unstable. People, this is like using the wrong fluids in your car and skipping service checks—it won’t run well, won’t save fuel, and probably won’t last long. I’m curious how many visit here seeking advice yet dismiss it, and how many stubbornly ignore others’ real experiences in situations they haven’t faced themselves. That’s why this forum is as chaotic as a dumpster fire on Windows 11. Edited October 26, 2022 by An0maly_76 Revised, more info
