Problem with audio distortion following Windows 10 version 2004 release Update complications affecting sound quality
Upon returning from my break, I was surprised to see my computer running an outdated build. Besides some oddities, I encountered a major issue with my sound system. My setup originally combined a 5.1 speaker array via three 3.5-inch jacks into an amplifier that also handled the subwoofer, which then fed the individual speakers. I relied on the subwoofer, front speakers, and center speaker; the rear ones were removed. Earlier, all devices worked together thanks to speaker fill enhancement for a balanced stereo experience with bass from the sub. After the update, everything switched to stereo only, using just the front speakers and leaving the rear ones off. I managed to restore some functionality by enabling Surround mode with speaker fill, but the bass kept clipping excessively. Applying Bass Management helped, though it altered volume levels and caused further clipping. I’m not an audio specialist and don’t understand what I was doing, especially since this was a simple Windows 7 configuration. Any advice or guidance would be really helpful.
Verify available audio driver updates and confirm whether the sample rate on your Windows playback device has been modified.
The Windows Update list only includes a few drivers, and none relate to audio. I've already verified the sample rate; changing between 16-bit and 24-bit doesn't appear to affect anything.
