Problem with Asus Zenbook Ryzen7: USB not recognized and freezing windows.
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Zenbook Oled equipped with a Ryzen 7 processor, model UM3406H.
After the installation day, most of my USB devices—both sticks and external drives—fail to appear in the Windows file explorer.
These devices have worked well on other computers before.
Once plugged in, the computer stops functioning properly and I can’t even power it off.
Even when using the usual "turn off" command in Windows or pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, nothing happens.
Occasionally Paragon Disk Manager opens and shows the USB devices in the drive list, but they don’t show up in Windows.
Attempts to format or delete partitions freeze at around 30%.
I disabled energy-saving settings for USB in the device manager, but the issue persists.
Anyone have any insight into what’s going on?
Thanks in advance.
For confirmation, the laptop functions properly until a USB-A device is connected.
This raises concerns about the ports' condition, possibly indicating internal defects or damage. It's worth checking if they seem loose or if debris is present around them. To confirm a hardware problem, try booting with a Live Linux USB drive to observe if the issue persists. This process won't affect your existing Windows setup.
Hi!
I checked the laptop with Fedora on a USB stick and everything works perfectly.
I even connected a USB hub with five devices, all were set up correctly and transfers were smooth.
It seems the device might be coming from my Windows installation on my Zenbook.
The odd part is that it's a fairly recent install, the laptop is only a few months old, and I just bought it new.
I installed the newest AMD drivers and everything on the PC is up to date.
The most unusual thing was that after using my USB devices on my Windows laptop, they started acting strangely on my desktop.
I’m wondering if the problem is related to a Windows update about a month ago, since several people I spoke to have been facing the same issue around the same time.
I might revert back to Windows 10 to avoid the same problem with Windows 11...
Or perhaps try Linux.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the Linux suggestion!
